5 Reasons to Call A Different Writer
I only have three requirements for choosing who I work with: 1) You appreciate the value of my expertise; 2) You’re really nice; and 3) You fully support me with your time and resources.

Obviously, you have different requirements when selecting a strategist. However, if you agree with the majority of the statements below, you should probably call someone else.

#1 - You just need some “wordsmithing”
You don’t need recommendations about messaging or brand strategy. You don’t need fresh insight. No wonder, it’s your company - of course you’ve got it all figured out. You only need someone to make your hastily crafted copy “sound good”. That case of acute corporate myopia? Ah, it’ll go away.

#2 - You would write it yourself... if only you had the time
Your creative writing professor said you could be the next Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Your spouse raves about your cards, poetry and letters. Surely, then, you can develop strategically focused concepts with an Art Director, learn the distinctions between writing a brochure and creating an entire direct response package, and then craft persuasive marketing copy. If only you had the time.

#3 - You think writers are a commodity
No one actually reads marketing literature, right? Besides, it’s your sales people who do all the lead generation. Thing is, you do need a “web presence” and some leave-behind materials. Anything will do. Every writer’s about the same. Words are a commodity. Go for the lowest price and be done with it.

#4 - You favor tradition over innovation.
You want to communicate in the same dry, academic, safe tone as your competition because, hey, that’s how folks in your industry always do it. Your copy will lack energy and clear reasons for prospects to respond, but why bother? In the quest to increase revenue, it’s best to do it like everyone else.

#5 - Your writer must have exact experience in your industry.
You opened a donut shop. Your writer must have a proven ability writing fluid, punchy copy about old-fashioned, crullers and jelly-filled. The product’s too technical, the business too unique for anyone to quickly understand. Even an accomplished writer – say, one with over a decade of experience, with most major industries and marketing vehicles – couldn’t possibly apply his knowledge to your business. Impossible.
